| Microsoft is investigating reports of a remote code execution vulnerability in MSHTML that affects Microsoft Windows. Microsoft is aware of targeted attacks that attempt to exploit this vulnerability by using specially-crafted Microsoft Office documents.
An attacker could craft a malicious ActiveX control to be used by a Microsoft Office document that hosts the browser rendering engine. The attacker would then have to convince the user to open the malicious document. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights.
Microsoft Defender Antivirus and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint both provide detection and protections for the known vulnerability. Customers should keep antimalware products up to date. Customers who utilize automatic updates do not need to take additional action. Enterprise customers who manage updates should select the detection build 1.349.22.0 or newer and deploy it across their environments. | Kata Containers is an open source project focusing on a standard implementation of lightweight Virtual Machines (VMs) that perform like containers. Prior to 3.31.0, the runtime-rs standalone virtio-fs path is vulnerable to a guest-root to host-root escape. In this configuration, Kata runs the host virtiofsd as root with --sandbox none --seccomp none, so an attacker with root-equivalent access inside the guest can bypass the guest virtio-fs client entirely by taking over the virtio-fs PCI device and building a virtqueue in userspace to submit raw FUSE requests directly to the host virtiofsd. A crafted FUSE_SYMLINK request whose new symlink name is an absolute host path is honored outside the configured shared directory, allowing guest root to create root-owned symlinks in sensitive host locations such as /etc/cron.d. By pointing such a symlink at a guest-controlled crontab payload reachable through a live runtime process's mount namespace, the attacker causes the host cron daemon to execute that payload as host root, crossing the Kata isolation boundary. This issue is fixed in version 3.31.0. |
| Pathling is a set of tools that make it easier to use FHIR and clinical terminology within health data analytics. Prior to version 2.0.0 of Pathling Server, Pathling's `/$result` endpoint allows a caller who can obtain any valid async export job ID to supply `file` parameter values containing path traversal sequences. The handler verifies only the supplied `job` and never normalises or confines the requested `file` path to that job's `jobs/<jobId>` directory before opening it as a filesystem resource. Because async export scratch space lives under the same warehouse database root as persisted resource tables, an attacker can use their own export job to read other files from the warehouse. This is fixed in Pathling Server 2.0.0. The `$result` handler now resolves and canonicalizes the requested file path and rejects any request that escapes the job's `jobs/<jobId>` directory. As an interim mitigation, disable the async export operations (`pathling.operations.exportEnabled`, `patientExportEnabled`, `groupExportEnabled`, `bulkSubmitEnabled`) or enable authentication and restrict export capability to trusted callers. |
| The wp-media-folder-addon WordPress plugin before 4.1.7 does not validate a user-supplied parameter before using it in a file read operation in two AJAX actions available to unauthenticated users, leading to Arbitrary File Disclosure and Server-Side Request Forgery on sites where a cloud storage connection has been configured. This is an incomplete fix of CVE-2026-9690, whose patch hardened only one of the affected cloud-storage handlers and left the others unpatched. |
| GNU cpio contains a Path Traversal vulnerability in its tar archive extraction functionality. When extracting a tar archive in copy-in mode with the --no-absolute-filenames option, the extracted file name is normalized but the tar hard-link target is passed to the link_to_name function without equivalent sanitization before calling link function. A tar archive provided by an attacker, containing a hard-link entry whose linkname is set to an absolute path outside the extraction directory, can cause cpio to create a hard link to an existing file outside the intended extraction directory, breaking the expected guarantee of --no-absolute-filenames and allowing archive-controlled linkage to external files.
This issue has been fixed in commit e2b9cbdd3354d2b1569b7390d1bc15c1930559ad |
| Fledge's backup-restore upload handler, upload_backup (python/fledge/services/core/api/backup_restore.py), calls tarfile.extractall(temp_path) on an admin-uploaded tar archive with no filter argument and no per-member path validation. Requires the admin role (@has_permission("admin")). |
| Zigbee2MQTT's ExternalJSExtension.getFilePath (lib/extension/externalJS.ts) joins a parameter received via an MQTT message (topic zigbee2mqtt/bridge/request/extension/save) into the extensions base path using path.join(basePath, name) with no sanitization. The extension handler only validates that the name ends in .js/.mjs/.cjs, writes the file, and then dynamically imports it via Node.js import, achieving remote code execution. |
| Node-RED's local-filesystem library storage module (getLibraryEntry and saveLibraryEntry in packages/node_modules/@node-red/runtime/lib/storage/localfilesystem/library.js), reachable via GET/POST /library/:lib/:type/*path, joins the user-supplied path parameter directly into the filesystem path via fspath.join(libDir, type, path) with no traversal sanitization, containment check, or path normalization/prefix verification. |
| OpenPLC Runtime v3's compile_program function (webserver/openplc.py) parses directives from uploaded Structured Text (.st) program files and writes the referenced content to with no validation that file_path stays within the ./core directory. A path-validation function, validate_file_path, exists elsewhere in the codebase (webserver/credentials.py) but is never invoked from compile_program, leaving the sink unprotected. |
