CVE-2026-72694 2 Mrtgconfig, Redhat 2 Mrtg, Enterprise Linux 2026-08-12 7.1 High
A flaw was found in MRTG. When the MRTG daemon is started as a root user and subsequently drops privileges, a local, low-privileged attacker can exploit a symbolic link (symlink) following vulnerability. By influencing or pre-placing a symlink in the process ID (PID) file path, the attacker can trick the root process into changing the ownership of an arbitrary existing file to the daemon user. This can lead to local privilege escalation, allowing unauthorized access to or modification of sensitive files.
CVE-2026-54230 3 Abrt Project, Fedoraproject, Redhat 3 Abrt, Fedora, Enterprise Linux 2026-08-12 7 High
A symlink following vulnerability was found in the ABRT post-create event handler scripts in libreport. Event scripts write output files using shell redirections without the O_NOFOLLOW flag. If the target file is replaced with a symlink, the shell process running as root follows the symlink and writes content to the symlink target, allowing arbitrary file overwrites on the system.
CVE-2026-65680 1 Microsoft 1 .onedrive For Macos 2026-08-12 6.7 Medium
Improper link resolution before file access ('link following') in Microsoft OneDrive allows an authorized attacker to elevate privileges locally.
CVE-2026-62812 1 Microsoft 8 Windows 10 1607, Windows 10 1809, Windows Server 2012 and 5 more 2026-08-12 7.8 High
Improper link resolution before file access ('link following') in Windows DHCP Server allows an authorized attacker to elevate privileges locally.
CVE-2026-17435 1 Rrwo 1 File::rotate::simple 2026-08-11 2.5 Low
File::Rotate::Simple versions before 0.4.0 for Perl create the target of dangling symlinks when rotating files. When the file to be rotated is a symbolic link to a missing file, and the touch option is enabled, then the rotate method assumes that the file is absent (since the existence check is against the target), and does not rotate it. But it touches the file, which creates the target. An attacker that has the ability to create the symlink can use this to create an arbitrary file with permissions of the process rotating the files (which may be different from the process that normally writes to the log file that is being rotated). Note that the touch option is disabled by default.
CVE-2026-63622 2 Libvirt, Redhat 4 Libvirt, Enterprise Linux, Enterprise Linux For Nvidia 26 and 1 more 2026-08-11 7.8 High
A flaw was found in libvirt. A local attacker, specifically a process running as the confined `swtpm` user, could exploit a symlink-following vulnerability in the `virFileChownFiles()` function. By planting a symbolic link within the `swtpm` state directory, the attacker could trick the root-level libvirt daemon into changing the ownership of an arbitrary file to the `swtpm` user. This allows for privilege escalation from the `swtpm` sandbox to root-level file ownership control.
CVE-2026-64212 1 Linux 1 Linux Kernel 2026-08-11 5.5 Medium
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: iwlwifi: mld: don't dereference a pointer before NULL checking it In iwl_mld_remove_link, the link->fw_id is saved at the beginning of the function so we have it after we freed the link. But the link pointer can be NULL, and is not checked when the fw_id is stored. Fix it by simply freeing the link at the end of the function. fFixes: 0e66a39f4f0e ("wifi: iwlwifi: fix potential use after free in iwl_mld_remove_link()")
CVE-2024-9341 2 Containers, Redhat 5 Common, Enterprise Linux, Openshift and 2 more 2026-08-11 5.4 Medium
A flaw was found in Go. When FIPS mode is enabled on a system, container runtimes may incorrectly handle certain file paths due to improper validation in the containers/common Go library. This flaw allows an attacker to exploit symbolic links and trick the system into mounting sensitive host directories inside a container. This issue also allows attackers to access critical host files, bypassing the intended isolation between containers and the host system.
CVE-2026-70622 1 Composefs 1 Tar-rs 2026-08-11 6.5 Medium
tar-rs versions 0.4.11 through 0.4.46 contain a symlink escape vulnerability in the Builder::append_dir_all() function that allows attackers to read files outside the intended source root directory by planting symlinks in an attacker-controlled directory. When a privileged process archives an untrusted directory, the function follows symlinks without verifying that resolved targets remain within the source root, causing out-of-bounds files to be included in the archive as regular files and disclosed to the attacker.
CVE-2026-15059 1 Systemd 1 Systemd 2026-08-11 5.5 Medium
Local unprivileged users can terminate arbitrary local processes via a systemd-oomd IPC API due to a missing path traversal validation.
CVE-2026-54369 1 Acl Project 1 Acl 2026-08-11 7.1 High
acl before version 2.4.0 contains a symlink traversal vulnerability in the libacl pathname-based functions acl_get_file(), acl_set_file(), acl_extended_file(), and acl_delete_def_file() that allows local attackers to escalate privileges by replacing any pathname component with a symbolic link. Attackers who control any component of a pathname processed by a privileged caller can redirect ACL read or write operations to arbitrary files or directories, enabling unauthorized manipulation of access control lists and local privilege escalation.
CVE-2026-68407 1 Linux 1 Linux Kernel 2026-08-11 5.3 Medium
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: nl80211: free RNR data on MBSSID mismatch nl80211_parse_beacon() rejects EMA RNR data when there are fewer RNR entries than MBSSID entries. The rejected RNR allocation has not been attached to the beacon data yet, so free it before returning the error.
CVE-2026-11940 1 Python 1 Cpython 2026-08-11 N/A
tarfile.extractall() with the 'data' or 'tar' filter could be bypassed by a crafted archive where a hardlink references a symlink stored at a deeper name than the hardlink itself.  The extraction fallback validated the symlink at it's archived location but recreated it at the hardlink's shallower path, letting a relative target the filter judged contained escape the destination directory.  This allowed a malicious tar archive to create a symlink pointing outside the destination, enabling out-of-destination file reads or writes. This was an incomplete fix of CVE-2025-4330.
